Mets vs. Braves 04/22/2018

Post by Cosmic Avenger » Sun Apr 22, 2018 10:35 am

Well, here we are again. So far, we’ve been holding our own against the purported dream team pitching staff of the Mets. I’m not sure if we’re just playing out of our minds right now, or if we have been getting understated reports from the media about how far this club has come since last season.

I’ll just put forth the fact that due to the issues with the board and life in general, we missed out on Snow’s erudite analyses during the off-season.

With that said, Let’s go, men...

And we're starting the day with roughly an hour rain delay.

Prior to spring training, I was expecting a 92ish loss season. By the end of spring training, I had upgraded that to a 85ish loss season. Some of this improvement is not real (hi, Markakis and Flahery), but some of it absolutely is.

Jiminy Cricket, it appears The Almighty has thought the Braves’ watering system isn’t up to par, so, we’re experiencing a rain delay for an hour.

Hi Snow. I agree about Nick and Flaherty. I’m expecting them to plateau any day now. But, these new kids... I’ve been impressed with their patience at the plate and their overachieving when the get put in the lineup.

The two I'm particularly intrigued by (and on the fence about) are Albies and Tucker. I've always believed Albies would be a solid player for a very few years and be done as a useful player around 28 or 29. His minor league pedigree was as a Michael Bourn/Juan Pierre type, a high average, low walk, no power guy whose value all came from his speed. It's the first thing age takes, and those guys all come to the same end. But if this newfound power is real, that is an absolute game-changer. Tucker has a hell of a pedigree as a former top prospect with a lot o great minor league seasons, and then it all went away. Maybe he's refound his old talent. Or maybe not.

Swanson is plying over his head, but I still feel safe saying he is just back to being Dansby Swanson, after getting jerked around by our coaching staff early last year (when he was leading the majors in line drives, none were for hits, and they decided to change his swing rather than realize that's bad luck and it would've righted itself) and going into a tailspin from which he never recovered.

We sure do need a couple of more bullpen arms, though.

Oh, man...our bullpen. So many first batter walks.

I was going to ask you about Albeis. I was struck by his power. Agreed on the speed that he brings and that it’s good for what we have use for now on the base paths.

Swanson, I’m not sure on, either.

I never got to see Flowers, or Acuña play. I hear a lot, but I’ve heard a lot about many of our prospects over the years.

How soon do you guys think acuna will be called up? For what it's worth, he's really struggling in AAA, though I don't expect that to last.

I also hope Swanson will live up to his draft status.

Between him and Newcomb, I really need those guys to improve so I can finally wash the bitter taste of the Simmons trade.

On another note, I really think, in hindsight, that the mess with coppollela was the best thing for our front office to finally move into the 21st century.
